YU XU
I am a third-year interior design student at Kingston University and am scheduled to graduate in June 2024.
In the past three years, I mainly focused on studying old building renovation. My design goal is to increase the flow of people in the building while retaining the original characteristics and cultural style. In addition to this, I am committed to incorporating sustainability concepts into the design to reduce the environmental impact of the building and minimize energy consumption. In addition, I continue to delve into barrier-free design and combine it with inclusive design, hoping that my design will be more convenient for more people to use.

My Story
Enlightenment and cognitive change of interior design
When it comes to my initial impression of architectural design, it seems very obvious to me now. What I thought of interior design at the beginning was putting beautiful furniture in the room.
I changed this simple perception after reading Le Corbusier's work and design theories. His architecture and interior design embodied a deep understanding of the basic elements such as proportion, light, ventilation and so on. Le Corbusier's design philosophy has inspired me to re-examine the nature of architectural design and to pay more attention to the function and practicality of space.
After three years of study in university, my understanding of interior design has become more and more complete. Besides the architecture itself, sustainable development and barrier-free design are also issues worthy of our deep consideration. I have not stopped on this path of interior design. I believe I will learn more in the future.
